The Gupta Program is designed for recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome – CFS / Myalgic Encephalomyelitis – ME, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity – MCS, Electrical Sensitivity -ES and related conditions.

This self help Program, devised by Ashok Gupta in 2008 is purchased online (see the affiliate link below) and practiced independently.

This brain retraining program is based on the following hypothesis:

A sudden trauma or a set of stressful circumstances, such as ongoing stress or protracted illness, force the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) into a perpetual state of arousal or high alert – commonly known as the ‘Fight/ Flight/ Freeze’ response.

In this state of high alert, ordinary activities and the demands of daily life, can become both overwhelming and threatening. During arousal the Parasympathetic Nervous System is unable to perform it’s ‘Rest and Digest’ function and thus failing to deal with the flood of stress hormones released by the brain. The overload of stress hormones adversely effect every organ and system of the body resulting in a multitude of secondary symptoms. Common secondary symptoms being anxiety, debilitating fatigue, pain, sleep disturbance, loss of mental clarity, brain function and digestive issues.

Anxious thoughts relating to these secondary symptoms in turn become stressors in themselves, creating a vicious cycle of SNS arousal.

The Gupta recovery program is one of brain retraining, interrupting this vicious cycle of the brain’s response to stress, calming the body with relaxation, meditation, breathing practices and pacing, ultimately reclaiming health and the joy of living again.

“The unconscious brain reaction involved in amygdala and insula dysfunction is not normally under a patient’s control, but I believe that some novel “brain retraining” techniques derived from NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), breathing, meditation techniques, and others, can target the reaction and control the amygdala. The techniques are highly specialized, and do not fit under any one category, which is why I refer to them as “Amygdala & Insula Retraining.” Ashok Gupta
